A great excursion combining the most popular places of the Bay of Naples: Pompeii, Positano and Capri.
The departure is from Your cruise ship in Naples (or Sorrento) or from your accommodation: your English-speaking driver and his limousine (with air conditioning) will be waiting for You there. Then You drive to Pompeii ruins where you meet your private English-speaking guide (only for you) and with him you'll visit for 2 hours that amazing place. The visit of Pompeii remains is a unique experience in the world: you will finally see face to face the antiquities you have read on so many books about the Roman Empire.
The event that immortalized Pompeii was the famous eruption of Mt Vesuvius in 79 AD that, in addition to Pompeii, destroyed the cities of Herculaneum and Stabiae. The first official excavation campaign of Pompeii was opened on March 23, 1748 by the abbot Martorelli. Near the intersection of the streets of Stabia and Nola were found objects, coins, statues, frescoes and the first body. The discovery of an entire ancient city, virtually intact and complete in all its components, was an incredible event worldwide. Travellers, who managed to get permission to visit it, left traces of their identity and their motivations. These included Winckelmann, Hamilton, Goethe and Mozart when he was fourteen.
After the visit of Pompeii, one can transfer to the terrace of the Virgin Mary of Positano where You can take some photos of the most precious jewel and most picturesque town of the Amalfi Coast. You'll have the chance to admire the memorable view of Positano with its almost vertical cascade of pastel houses leading down to the beach.
The history of Positano is long, rich, and even a little strange. Like most Italian towns, Positano has its miraculous image: a Byzantine Madonna. The legend says that a long time ago Saracen pirates sacked the city, and, among other things, they took away the picture of the Virgin Mary. But, when on the high sea, a miraculous vision terrified them so much, they decided to bring back the image to Positano. An event that is remembered every year on August 15.
Then, we transfer to the port of Sorrento for taking a jetfoil to Capri. Time permitting, you can stop for few minutes in main square of Sorrento, Tasso Square, for taking a photo.
Capri is the Mediterranean island by definition, with its colours and perfumes. All those who visit this island, are enchanted and captivated by its charm. Just 20 minutes of crossing and when You land to the port, You can take the cable car for reaching Capri town. You’ll be soon entranced by the famous Piazzetta, the little square of Capri that hosted many famous stars of the international jet set who loved Capri for their holiday. Your guide will show You Capri centre with a little bit of free time to enjoy the magic atmosphere of the Blue island .
Then, back to the port of Capri where You can take a jetfoil back to your cruise ship/accommodation for concluding this great excursion.
